Earth and Environmental Field Courses for School Groups

Activity-Filled Hawaii Island Short Courses to Investigate the Natural History of an Isolated Volcanic Island Archipelago

TEOK Investigation offers a variety of customized, field intensive short course type educational programs designed for high school and college level student groups. Some of our programs have even been provided for middle school groups. Individual programs can be formatted, with input from group leader-educators, to fit the specific educational desires of the class.

The activity-filled programs include interactive, hands-on learning experiences. The many properties of a wide range of interrelated environmental systems are examined, measured, recorded, analyzed and discussed. Emphasis is placed on determining the character of specific ecosystems and their closed island interdependence along with the development of a better understanding of the modifying influence of their human occupants.

Over the past 10 years programs have ranged in emphasis from ocean and geoscience to ecology and environmental science with hands-on instruction on one island (Kauai or the Big Island of Hawaii) or two islands. Courses have ranged in length from as short as 6 days on one island to as long as 12 days on two islands, including travel to and from Hawaii.

In addition to a robust interactive outdoor educational program, we handle the logistics dealing with on island transportation, accommodations and food.

We currently offer four Hawaii Field Courses (please click on a course name for more details on each program):

1. Geo-Ecology and Biogeography on Kauai (5-6 days; One Island)

2. Geoscience on the Big Island of Hawaii (7-8 days; One Island)

3. Earth and Environmental Science (6-8 days; Hawaii and Kauai)

4. Earth and Environmental Science (8-10 days; Hawaii and Kauai)
